Steamboat buffet are getting popular these days. Especially during holidays/festive period, there’s sure to be alot of people who choose to gather and have steamboat, where the ‘gathering’ and ‘eating’ makes the holiday season more enjoyable!!

There’s another steamboat restaurant in town…(well, it’s really in town, at Macalister Road, just opposite the UMNO building)

Town Steamboat Restaurant

Well, it’s quite new, so the opening ceromony prices per head are as shown. (Adults RM19.90, Adults above 55 years old RM 12.90, children RM 8.90, children below 5 years old is Free)
Before they decide to increase the price due to popularity, do go try it out!!

The difference of this shop from other steamboat buffets is that they serve Dim Sum too!! While waiting for the soup to boil and for the grill plate to heat up, we can savour the delicious dim sum. There’s alot of variety to choose from and it taste good. We enjoyed the egg tart very much.

yummy egg tart and pandan chicken roll

Look at the baskets of dim sum we took…and it’s only part of it. Haha

salad and fried wantan

Ohh of course they have the normal steamboat food as well, but I only managed to take a pic before we started our buffet spree…

There’s those food which can be grilled too, like sotong, marinated chicken meat, ham, etc. We were too busy eating hence no photo to show. Hehe

It’s quite a nice shop, very spacious and airy with lots of tables. Food wise, alot of variety of dim sum and also steamboat items. There’s free flow of drinks (ribena, lemon, soya, chinese tea, etc.) and ice-cream as well.

For those big eaters, do go for it!!! For those small eaters, bring your brother, father, boyfriend, etc. along :P

There’s where I went for dinner with my friends on Christmas eve. What about you??

Think BBQ chicken restaurant and I will guess it’s a local business shop or those from western countries but we were surprise that the BBQ Chicken shop located in Gurney Plaza (opposite Chillies) is a Korea’s no.1 chicken restaurant!!

Out of idea where to dine…we finally make our way to try out what’s nice from that shop.

I ordered the fish cutlet (RM12.90)…I know I know, it’s famous for the chicken, but I just didn’t feel like eating the whole plate of it and we were also planning to share our meals, so we opted for different things.

Fish Cutlet

My friend ordered the spicy chicken (RM12.50)

Hot Drums Chicken

There, each one gets one…how nice :)

They widely promote that “BBQ Chicken is the 1st in the world to use 100% Olive Oil
Sounds good and healthy, but is it for real?? Haha…
Overall the food was ok, we were given a free soup of the day. The spicy chicken was really SPICY. The fish cutlet was not bad…I do enjoy the salad though. Very fresh and just the right amount of mayo. There’s rice and ramen too in the menu but since it’s lunch time, we didn’t want to have such a filling meal.

We were given a coupon consisting of a complimentary 4 pieces chicken wings or 4 pieces of golden strips worth RM7.50 (with purchase above RM30!!) Worth???

Anyway after lunch, we walked around Gurney, window shopping. We managed to catch the Baby Looney Tunes in action!! Haha…all the kids got attracted to it…including me. Look at how cute they are….

For the whole week, The Star was advertising about the Hawker Food Feast in PISA, organized in conjunction with the StarWalk 2007.

Penang International Sports Arena

So, last saturday, we made our way there, reaching there at 6pm, thinking that it starts from 6-10pm, we won’t have to crowd with other visitors.

Just look at the photos!! Just 15mins past 6pm, the place was full and very crowded. Fanatic food hunters I must say….

super crowded null

Of course the most famous (with the longest queue) is this stall…

sister char koey teow

This is what I managed to buy after standing in line for about 1 hour!!

char koey teow curry mee

See the tiny bits of crab meat on the lower left of the char koey teow? Added that bits on top and the plate cost RM5. But it was nice, and it’s my first time trying the famous sister koey teow, although I’m been living on this island for so long. The curry mee (from Lorong Seratus Tahun?!?!) cost RM4 each. I did not try it but my dad said it was just ok…not so special after all. We tried the Satay too (at RM0.50 per stick). The chicken meat taste ok but the ‘kuah’ (gravy) was a let-down. I wanted to try the ais-kacang too but looking at the queue was enough to make me stop yearning for it.

I know Penang people are food lovers. But this is just crazy….
Plus the super duper loud speaker blazing the music and announcements right at the diners table…I end up with a migraine and rushing my parents to go back!! I hate places with loud, heart-thumping music, trying to break our eardrums…it just contributes to my migraine.

Who else went there and try out the other food?

There’s alot of fish head mee hoon in Pg but Assam fish head mee hoon…seldom heard of it, right?

I went to this shop in Sungai Ara for lunch and the speciality there is the assam fish soup.

They do have other dishes like char hor fun or tai lok mee, but most of the customers there were seen eating big bowls of the assam fish head mee hoon

It’s a huge bowl!! Priced at RM6. You can opt for either fried fish or those fresh ones. The ingredients and vegetables are also aplenty.

Don’t remember the name of the coffee shop but it’s located at the corner lot, just nearby the market area. Night time, the shop is usually full, serving seafood and local dishes.
