Decorations

Decorating the house with "bling-bling" lights, lanterns, red packets on plants….what else? How did you decorate your house? My neighbourhood here, seems like having a competition during festive seasons especially during CNY. Most houses will be decorated to the maximum with all sorts of lights and all kinds of rainbow color. We prefer to just have yellow lights and red lanterns!!

Oranges

To eat or to decorate…like this one, it’s part of a floral deco!!

Yee Sang

Notice the top of the photo? "Lou" until veges are flying around!!

Well this is the 1st time I tired the Vegetarian Yee Sang. It has 7 different kinds of vegetables and added with vegetarian cuttle-fish like thingy and crispy "i-dunno-what-name-it-is" biscuit-like thingy.

"Pai Thi Kong"

Something that is widely observed by Penang Hokkiens is "Pai Thi Kong" (hokkien) / 拜天公 bài tiān gōng (mandarin) which literally means "heaven worship" by offering food and burning incense. It is believe to be a thanks giving prayer to the Emperor of Heaven. Read more here.

Incense are getting nicer each year. Last time it use to be just plain and powdery but now there’s wordings and designs such as dragons on it. Interestingly, it gives out sparkles when it’s being burnt. And there’s even a 4-digit number written on it which can be seen after it’s burnt about half-way through. Even the thin ones have some colorful wordings on it and is coated in shining gold color. All things can be done these days huh!!

Fireworks

Load and load of fireworks. There’s even more this year than last year!! "Pai Thi Kong" night has the most fireworks in my housing area. It felt like a war zone!! Or to better put it, more like a fireworks competition…not on who has the nicest BUT is who have the LOUDEST!! Just 2 houses away from mine, the owner blow up 3 huge fireworks like below and GOSH it was quite terrifying! It’s the 1st time I’ve seen such huge firework right above my head and the booming sound can even make your heart jump. The fireworks was greatly magnified in such close proximity. Words can hardly justify how the experience was like. I can only watch in awe and didn’t even took any photos of it. My dad tried to but it couldn’t fit into the camera coz we were just too close!! Haha. Anyway, there were fireworks none stop from 11.30pm till 1.00am that the police patrol car came and drive around to make sure everything is under control!!! They didn’t come to give summons but just showing that they are keeping an eye on what’s happening. Talk about the ‘ban on fireworks’. Hahaha nothing can stop the Chinese if they want to do something!! *psst…election is coming. Exercise your rights!!*

Below are some of the fireworks captured thoughout the CNY days.

Hope everyone is enjoying the New Year. May you get load of angpow!!!! Hehehehe.
