This is something which I never wrote about here but since it’s the hotest issue right now in our country, I’m just gonna say something short.
It’s going to be my first time voting. The newpaper and TV news seems like a brainwashing tool for the parties and individuals contesting to "drill" the citizens into thinking who’s the right men/women to cast our votes. Very misleading indeed as the mainstream papers and tv stations are probably owned by the people linked to the "big guns".
That aside, I realise there are many new voters who have the slightest idea about the election details such as who up contesting, how many parties are there, how to vote, what is the indelible ink and what is it for and so forth.
I just came upon a blog which shows the process of voting. It’s good for first time voters to take a look and understand it so we we won’t be like *blur blur sotong* when the big day comes. The only different thing this time around will be the use of the indelible ink!! So remember, don’t put any nail polish on that day.
"Exercise your rights and vote wisely". That’s the tagline everyone has been saying. Some might think they couldn’t care less with all this but it is sure going to affect our daily life in some way or another in the future. Enough said.
**updated 4th March
No more using indelible ink for some "security" reason as told by the EC.
The Election Commission has cancelled the use of indelible ink for this general election, citing public order and security issues.
The stunning announcement was made at a press conference in Putrajaya this afternoon - four days before polling.
EC chairperson Abdul Rashid Abdul Rahman said the commission was obliged to make a "firm and final decision to ensure the smooth conduct of the 12th general election".

Yes, we need the check and balance for good governance.
Please call upon all friends and relatives to vote for the Opposition.
Please do ourselves favour by sending the right candidates to parliment
to voice up for us. Especially Penang and Jelutong voters, we need more
and more of your supports to reject BN parasites in the Parliment.
Please call upon your friends and relatives, vote for the Opposition.
Especially those staying in Penang, please vote for the Opposition. Let
the Parliment have the real voice of rakyat.

someone wrote in Malaysiakini, an online newspaper about this:

Juli Ooi: I would like to advise first-time voters to check with the Election Commission (EC) to ensure that they have been registered as voters.
I was a first-time voter in the 2004 election and I was told that my name was not in the register when I presented my Mykad at the polling station. Upon my insistence that I had checked my eligibility to vote at the EC website, the officer pointed me to another counter where I was again told that my name was not in the register. I raised my voice in displeasure and this second officer bent sideways to produce another register from under the table and only then allowed me to vote.
So, first-time voters, please be ready to face such tactics when you go to vote on March 8. The government and EC will do their utmost best to deny you your right to vote as they know first-timers are likely to be opposition supporters.
