"One is never enough…buns to die for!"

Is it me or does it sound too serious??? :P

Yup Rotiboy is finally in Penang. Used to be able to enjoy it only in KL but now it is in Queensbay Mall at Lower Ground Floor.

Very surprised when I read the side information printed on the paper bag.

"Born in 1998 in Bukit Mertajam, Penang, Malaysia". :O I always go to BM but never in the world did I know Rotiboy originated from there.

KK, you BM lang, why never tell me Rotiboy from there?????

And I wonder what took them so long to finally open in Penang a bakery like the ones in KL.

The bread is very crispy on the top but very soft and sweet inside. Another the good thing is although they put butter inside, the bread is not oily as a whole. I left it in the paper bag overnight but the next day the paper bag was still dry and clean. Unlike the ones I bought from Tesco, the whole paper bag gets oily the next day!!

Imagine how much they earn from the buns which sells at RM1.80 each (Used to be RM1.50 in KL about a year ago)

They have other varieties of bread too but of course their mexican buns is the Number 1 seller.

Cheese stick (RM1.50)

Good thing there’s more bakery choices in Queensbay Mall now.

What do you think of PHOP?

That was the question asked when we were given a survery form to fill up after our meal. A question pop-up in my mind "What is PHOP?????". It took me a few seconds to realise that it was the abbreviation of Paddington House Of Pancake..

This shop has been around since Queensbay is opened, but I’ve never dine-in before although I’ve passed by countless of times.

Drinks - Ice Fruit Tea (Peach) (left) & Ice Chamomile Tea (right)

Pan Fried Dory with Grilled Cheese

The fish was pan fried and still comes out very moist and fresh. There’s lots of baby tomatoes with melted cheese on the dory. Of course it came together with three 4-inches wheat pancake which is soft and appetizing.

Mexican Burger

A double burger with a combination of chicken meat on top and beef meat at the bottom. The pancake substitutes the usual burger bread and it was surprisingly very nice and taste great. Bread is usually very dry and tasteless but these pancakes is soft and slightly sweet. Both the chicken and beef meat came in thick portions yet tender and juicy.

Mexican Burger

Look what’s inside the burger. (from top to bottom) pancake, pineapple/onion/capsicium slices + cheese, chicken meat, vegetables/onion, pancake, beef meat, vegetables, pancake.

All in all, it was a super full and nice lunch. Thanks to KK for the treat!!! This is the only thing that I’ve got for my b’day and I really appreciate it!! (minus the one you brought on Sunday laa). And thank you also to you and SJ for the only ones who remembered. It was such a huge sigh when even the closest people I’m with and the ones I always thought of don’t remember what day it is.

There’s such an extensive menu in PHOP. I hope to go there again to try out the dessert pancakes!! Still can’t imagine the taste of pancakes with fruits and ice-cream yet…..hmmmm. PHOP really makes nice pancakes!!!

It’s either a love or hate affair….Penang Laksa.

Some loves it so much that they are constantly craving for it, while others just won’t even take a spoonful of it.

I’ve grown up eating laksa, not because I stay near the (over-rated) assam laksa stall in Penang BUT my mom cooks it whenever there’s fresh fish available in the market which is used to make the laksa soup.

Here’s our home version Penang laksa. Want some??

Sometimes we just substitude the laksa noodle with mee hoon or even instant noodle…and it taste just as great mainly because the soup has all the taste and "omph" it needs to make this dish a saliva-dripping kind. :)

I haven’t reach the level of being able to make it myself though….so no recipe provided. hehehehe

Hidden deep inside Tanjung Bungah is this reastaurant cum bistro, Summer Garden. It’s a corner house renovated into a cozy and nice place to have wine and dine or for those who do not take alcohol, there a variety of different cuisines to choose from.

Over here, they serve local, Western and Japanese dishes. Local food like nasi lemak, curry mee, etc. is only served during lunch though.

First up was cream of mushroom. Not the best I’ve tasted but at least it’s up to standard. (Mouse over the photo for more details)

Cream of Mushroom (RM7)

We then each ordered an individual meal.

Fish and Chips. The salad at the side was nice. They added some green dressing on top and although it looked funny, it taste good. I wonder what it’s made from. Overall this is a normal dish but with an overpriced tag. (I guess that’s the usual price tags in restaurants/bistros)

Fish and Chips (RM16)

Some of the other food we ordered.

Sirloin Steak. Did not tried it but the portion came out quite small.

Sirloin Steak (RM30)

Katsujyu.  I was wondering how can their Japanese food be compared with those Japanese restaurants but this dish came out quite like the ones you can find in other Japanese food outlets.

Katsujyu (RM12)

And finally, Spaghetti Carbonara. It wasn’t creamy enough but they were not stingy with the ingredients

Spaghetti Carbonara (RM19)

Verdict? I would say it’s a nice place to enjoy a drink and a quiet place to chit-chat. Food-wise, Some are good while others could have been better. But this place is more of an above average restaurant, so the price tag is slightly higher.

If you are around in Tanjung Bungah and wondering where to go for a cozy and quiet dinner, you can try it out.

Summer Garden

No. 2, Lorong Lembah Permai 3, 11200, Tanjung Bungah, Penang.

I’ve provided the address and phone coz it’s hard to find this place and it’s even harder to give directions. So, go ask the owner. Hahahhaa….

So there we were, standing in New World Park, thinking what to have for dinner. After walking for two rounds (yes, 2 rounds) we were tempted by the flyer a shop worker distributed and went in to try it out. Who wouldn’t be when it looks so nice (from the flyer’s picture, that is)

Lio’z Music Cafe, New World Park

It’s located above Manhattan Fish Market….and I realise it’s the only shop there which has a second floor setting.

With two hungry stomaches to please, hopes were high and we ordered the two different set meals to try. This is how it really looked like (minus the dessert - ice-cream which came after the meal)

A break down on what we ordered….

Iced Jasmine tea and Lio’z Horoscope Special: Pieces

The tea tasted bland, very diluted while the Pieces drink has vinegar and some peach taste to it (if not mistaken)

This is the Set B - Shi Lin Chicken Chop Noodle that my dinner kaki ordered(who wish to remain anonymous…and don’t even want her hands, etc to be in the photo!!). This set, as u can see from the first photo, cost RM12.90++. Keep in mind how the ice cream looks from the flyer!!

We were both wondering why the chicken and vegetables came seperately from the noodles. The noodle soup taste just like any normal clear soup base style. Later on we experimented by putting the chillies into the soup, and it taste better than before. Hahaha.

This is Set D - Grilled Chicken Chop Served with Spaghetti & Daily Vegetable (Gajun Sauce) that I ordered costing Rm17.90++.

I enjoyed the sauce, which I don’t even know how to explain what it taste like. Even the waitress cannot explain it when I asked before ordering!!! The chicken was tender but the spaghetti and vegetable portion were so small like it’s a kids meal!!!

Both set came with soup - Set B with soup of the day (herbal soup) and Set D with mushroom soup. The mushroom soup is one of the weirdest I’ve ever tasted. And there’s not even a sight of mushroom in it.

Then came the dessert I’ve been waiting for.

Obviously it fell below expectation. Just compare it with the picture in the flyer…so much different. Where’s the wafer/cream/cherry, etc??

I hate mint flavour ice-cream..so it just adds to the dissapointment.

The shop has quite a nice setting, with sofas inside and steel chairs outside with a big tv screen but they might want to improve a little more in their food I feel. Btw, this place is WiFi enabled!! And there’s suppose to be live singers I guess, looking at the name, music cafe.
