Buzzing with FOOD

Manila Place in Gurney Plaza (ground floor, opposite Chillis). It has been there for a long time, but somehow I only managed to try it out few months ago during lunchtime on a Saturday.

They have quite an extensive menu, ranging from salads, main course (western), local delicacies, pies & sandwiches and of course desserts. An array of cakes are displayed near the cashier counter. The cheese cakes are an attraction.

We picked the set lunch meal of a main course, which comes with drinks, soup of the day and dessert (ice-cream)

The mushroom soup was on par…but nothing more than that. The bun however is very soft and the accompanied butter gives a pleasent start to our meal.

Then comes the main course, Spaghetti Bolognese Chicken (RM19.90++) and King Sized Sausage (RM21.90++).

Both the garlic bread and the bolognese was nicely done. The garlic bread smells fragrant and is crunchy at the side but soft at the center. The bolognese sauce topped with cheese is very thick and has huge chunks of chicken meat, carrots and tomatoes.

(bunny face lookalike on a plate)

The King Size Sausage my lunchmate ordered. No idea where the sausages were imported from but it was so soft and the meat was so finely grinded. It also look very pale beige in colour on the inside instead of the normal ones we see in supermarkets.

There’s two choices for the sauce. This one is some oriental spice sauce or something..don’t quite remembered. It taste abit sour and spicy. The wedges was very good while the salad gives a refreshing taste to this dish.

Overall it was a good and satisfying meal, price was reasonable and the ambience was very nice. There’s free WiFi in there too.

*Hey since when this toy of mine sneaked in and  made a post???….*

Have you come across times when even some simple and common food will make you satisfied and gives a boost of energy to you?

One of my favourite and easily cooked food is FRIED RICE. It is so easy to make a plate of fragrant fried rice with just some minimal ingredients.

There’s also alot of stalls outside selling this dish, some local style, some Thai style and so on.

This one here is PAI KUT ONG FRIED RICE. The rice is fried with only egg and some soy sauce to taste. That’s all. The main taste and attraction comes from the Pai Kut Ong itself. The pork spare ribs is scooped onto the rice after the rice is fried. It is then garnished with sesame seeds and spring onions. With an extra charge, you can add on an egg (sunny side up) or even curry chicken.

Somehow the spare ribs goes very well with the fried rice…much better than with just plain white rice. The meat is tender and has sweet and sour taste.

I gobbled up the plate of rice in minutes!! Was real hungry that time.

The stall is located in Lebuh Pekaka Satu, at a corner coffee shop in Taman Pekaka, opposite the Maxim Dim Sum shop. The shop is facing Bangunan Lip Sin. I think many would have come across this stall before. Business is quite good and sometimes the queue is abit long. They also sell curry chicken fried rice, anchovies fried rice, fried meehoon and others.

There are times when I have a sudden motivation to prepare a nice breakfast, not just for myself…..but also for that SOMEONE. It sometimes comes as a surprise to my parents and even to myself that I would sacrifice my slow and routine morning of waking up after pressing the snooze button on my alarm clock a few times, taking my own sweet time to think of what to wear, come down, eat whatever that’s in my view, flipping & reading the papers…then finally drive to work.

But that particular morning, hmmmm….rewind back….
The night before I already started preparing the ingredients which I need for the next day, then even before I dozed off on my bed, I was still planning through the steps and things that I’m gonna do to save time.

So come that morning, I practically jumped up after the alarm rang once (yes just once), clean up, dress up and dashed down to start making breakfast. Parents were out for morning walk, so I had the whole kitchen to myself and give me the freedom to  mess-up the kitchen and make it topsy-turvy make breakfast without any constant stare from them!!

So…I was trying to make two sets of breakfast, for myself and another for SOMEONE….whom I’ve been with long enough to get the privilledge to get this "limited edition" of my hands-on breakfast. You are SOMEONE whom I rant to almost everyday, whom I drag along when I needed company to go try out some food (so that I can blog about it, ahahah) and I’m the one who constantly have to answer to people when they asked "Hey, where is XXX?, didn’t come with you?", to which I will always reply "XXX went home already". .

So to that SOMEONE, treasure it yea…..hehehe. And when am I getting a home-made lovely breakfast from you next????

Hahahaa….so long winded, seems like I whipped up some big feast??? No laaa….wait till you see the pictures. It’s just something simple laa…but took me quite some time coz I had to prepare it for four people (including parents) and packing up and not to mention, the cleaning process after that.

Firstly, I prepared some mini own-made pizza.

> Spread pasta sauce on bread (trying to be adventurous)
> Put some mayo tuna
> Sprinkle the green peas, corns, and thinly-cut crabsticks on top
> Lastly, some cheedar cheese
> Bake in oven for about 10 minutes (~130deg)

In the mean time, while waiting for the pizza to get ready, I made some sandwiches.

First layer - mayo tuna
Second layer - cheedar cheese

Cut them into triangle shaped, and wrapped them in sling-wrap. Cut some cucumbers.

Ok, after that move on to making some plain omelette. Heat up the wok and crack three eggs in it.

Oh dear…time is running out…I’ve to drive to work (I need more than 40 minutes to reach my workplace)

Finally, everything’s ready….in to the tupperware…(rushing like mad)
And just before I run out of the house, my mom asked me "you making breakfast for everyone in office??". I look blankly at her….then rush off without replying.

So, the end product, taken while I’m in office,

sorry la…presentation was sucky coz I was practically dumping everything into the box…I only had 30 mins to do everything ok..and for four person summore!!! :P

That’s all for the "once-in-a-blue-moon" own-made breakfast from me!! You want some?? Can….no problem….BUT….Don’t dream of getting it anytime soon….hahahhaa. When the blue moon is in sight again, then we’ll see. *LOL*

Every time me and KK goes to Queensbay Mall, and when I asked her "what to eat?", her automatic answer will be JAPIN!!!!!!! (yes with the exclamation mark as well)

My Ice Peach Tea and her ’seaweed taste’ tea (forgot what the name of it). Very funny but refreshing taste!!

What makes her soooo in love with this restaurant is the one and only dish that she ordered each time she visits there.

There are many other choices to choose from, rice to udon or sushi…BUT she ONLY orders the same thing each time.

The set meals available…not many choices though.

Ala carte meals

Gyusara Set - RM 19.80

There it is. Her number one favourite set meal….Gyusara Set (beef)

Thinly sliced beef meat with loads and loads of onions, garnished with sesame seeds. The side dish includes salad, mash potatos and miso soup + "tong sui" as dessert instead of the usual fruits. The mash potato taste very nice….different from those elsewhere!! She commented that the beef is very tender and juicy.

This Japanese food outlet adds some local twist to its set meals where they serve you a bowl of "tong sui" dessert together with all the other side dishes. The set meals also comes with a drink of choice.

So far I’ve been there 3-4 times I think, and each time I ordered something different. This time around, I picked the Syogayaki Set (pork)

Syogayaki Set - RM 16.80

Pork slices marinated with ginger sauce and cooked bbq style. Although it tasted abit salty, but it’s appetizing. There isn’t a strong (or even little) taste or smell of ginger, so no worries to those who are afraid of gingers.

"Tong sui" dessert is served at the end, after your meal, and is usually red bean soup or some other ‘dessert soup of the day’

This outlet also gives free parking ticket to patrons. All you have to do is exchange your parking ticket when you pay your bill at the counter.

*since the parking rate in this mall has changed recently, I’m not sure if this ‘free parking’ promotion is still available*
