Behold The Dragon Warrior aka Panda Po (Jack Black)

Shifu (Dustin Hoffman) and The Furious Five - Tigress (Angelina Jolie), , Viper (Lucy Liu), Monkey (Jackie Chan), Crane (David Cross), Mantis (Seth Rogen)

A good mix of humour, drama, heart-warming moments and action makes this movie entertaining from start to end. Yea, the storyline is a bit cliché, but it’s an animation movie…there’s no need to look/think too deep isn’t it. This is a good stress-reliever movie!!

The humour in the script were well placed, with more hits than misses to tickle our funny bones on the panda antics.

The animation was very nicely created….particularly the characters and the lovely scenery!!!

On another note, some great messages lies within the movie….as empty as the Dragon scroll looks, it took Po to ponder for long and only to realise after the quote said by his father (Mr. Ping "Let me tell you about the secret ingredient…..there is NO secret ingredient. Ypu just have to believe it is good!!" (The scroll is just a shiny gold plate inside which reflects clearly the face of the person looking at it…no words, no drawings, just empty!)

To believe in oneself, which is a universal theme in this movie….You might not look the best, nor are the best amongst your peers, but so long as you have that attitude to learn and improve, that’s the "secret formula" to success. Not to mention, if there’s something you just can’t live without (Food in Po’s case), it’s the motivation to do something you never even thought of achieving. (pic below).

jumping 10-feet up and doing a perfect split (which he didn’t even know how he did it) just to get his hands on Monkey’s cookies!

Some Trivia from IMBD (which some makes me go "ohh..really??")

  • The individual fighting styles of the Furious Five members (Crane, Mantis, Tiger, Monkey and Viper) are actual martial art styles modeled after the particular animals.

  • The Kung Fu/ Wu-xia convention where attacks on the correct nerve/ Chi points can cause paralysis and other effects is adopted although it is not explained in the film, and the jade figurine topped sticks on the shell worn on the imprisoned Tai Lung are positioned at the traditional Chi energy points of the body. The sticks are intended to keep the villain from accessing the power from those points, which is why he was first concerned about removing them before attempting to break his chains.

  • Shifu’s name means "Teacher/Master" ("Shi-fu" in Pinyin transliteration) in Chinese. Sifu is a red panda, but with more white fur than red.

  • Oogway’s name means "Tortoise" ("Wu-gui" in Pinyin transliteration) in Chinese. Oogway is a tortoise, and wears a cassock with the markings of a stylized tai-ji fish diagram on his back.

  • WILHELM SCREAM: When Tai Lung is escaping prison and is hitting the guards with a mace. He flings a guard into the air and when he kicks the guard through the door, just before he lands, you hear it.

  • The characters of KG Shaw and JR Shaw are a reference to the Shaw Brothers, who created many 1970’s kung fu movies.

  • Po employs the bear-style of kung fu in his final fight with Tai Lung.

And among some funny quotes:

Po: Legend tells of a legendary warrior whose kung fu skills were the stuff of legend.
Po: It is said that his enemies would go blind from over-exposure to pure awesomeness!

Tigress: You would think that Master Oogway would choose someone who knows kung fu.
Crane: Or be able to touch his toes.
Monkey: Or see his toes.

Tai Lung: What are you going to, big guy? Sit on me?
Po: Don’t tempt me.

Oogway: One often meets his destiny on the road he takes to avoid it.

Po: [looking around at the historical artifacts in the palace] Wow! I’ve only seen paintings of that painting!

And the funniest of all…..which made the whole cinema laugh like we’ve smelled a high dosage of laughing gas…..(Somehow by only reading it kind of kills 98% of the humour!!!)

Tigress: This is just a big joke to you.
[Po makes weird face and Tigress goes to slap him with claws]
Mantis: Wait, wait, my fault! I tweaked his facial nerves! And may have also stopped his heart.

The Furious Six??? hahahahaha

All in all….great work by DreamWorks!!! Go watch it if you haven’t. :)
