Buzzing with FOOD

Just a short note…

Yesterday was this blog’s one year in existence. Yeah it’s one year old already, but not much significant accomplishment though.

When I started posting, it was just a corner to let me write a little bit of what I enjoy doing in my past time.It then turn out to be more focused on food photography (since I love taking photos and since we eat like so many meals a day) and from there, I got to know a friendly group of people who blogs about food as well. Thank you for your presence and comments!!

At the beginning, I churn out posts like every alternate days!! The novelty has since died off due to more work commitments and other responsibilities. But I hope I will continue to post about my traveling experiences, some readings come across and also not to forget, the lovely food that we can find here in this Island. Postings might slow down to like maybe one or two per week but the appreciative readers and precious comments I receive will spur me on to write more!!

So, that’s it. Any wishes to this blog??? hehehe

I had a few people asking me if I did the cupcakes that was pictured in the recent birthday gathering. Here’s where I got it from.

The moment I saw Alice from I-Love-Cupcakes bringing out the box from her place, a thought came into my mind - it looked more like a present than a birthday cake!! The custom-made transparent box was nicely tied with a ribbon and the colorful and eye-pleasing one dozen of cupcakes sat nicely inside.

Since we can decide what design we want, I thought of Pooh theme since the birthday girl adores this character.

These cupcakes are good if you want to have a custom-made cake for someone on a special occasion. As they say, it’s only once a year, so why not make it special?? What’s important is the intention and result, not the $$. I tried, and I hope I did make it special.

Note: Just a caution, since the designs are sugar icing, those not prone to sweet food should be aware!!

Ohh yaa…ever wondered how I pick up the cake and drive all the way to Roadhouse Grill myself without ruining the cake?

Hahahaa let it be the seat passenger!!!

So, hop over to the link above to contact Alice if you are interested. :)

A small gathering to celebrate a good friend’s birthday @ Roadhouse Grill Restaurant, Gurney Hotel.

Roadhouse style means:

Roadhouse Grill is an American old style steakhouse and saloon which serves steaks, ribs, chicken, seafood and sandwiches.

Located just at the side of Gurney Hotel ground floor, 2-doors away from Starbucks Coffee.

You can choose to sit outside the restaurant or dine inside with an oldstyle cowboy steakhouse/bar ambience.

The barrel of peanuts and buckets you see above is used to serve free peanuts to every customer who dine in….and it’s free flow!! And the style here is, after eating the nuts, throw the shells on the floor and the waiter will happily clean it up at the end of the day. Even when we tried to be "courteous" (since we Malaysians don’t simply throw rubbish everywhere, do we? Hehe), the owner manager and waiter ended up throwing it on the floor right in front of us. The bubbly owner restaurant manager said if we don’t do it, she will. So we kind of go with the Roadhouse style!! :P (read the 2nd photo to know why they do that)

Beverages. They do serve alcohol here, since there’s quite a number of foreigners dining here.

Roadhouse Shirley (left) and Special Drink of the day (right)

Strawberry Milkshake

On to the food..they serve steaks, ribs, pastas, pizzas, sandwiches, chicken and seafood. Quite extensive I would say.

First served right after we made our orders were buns hot-from-the-oven with butter. Something different form normal buns, this yeast rolls taste a little sweet when eaten plain.

If you think you want to go for something light and ordered a chicken sandwich, then be forewarned. Haha

Chicken Sandwich (RM17.90)

Seafood Combination (RM32.90)

Steak Mexicana - Beef (RM28.90)

Chicken Parmigiana (RM20.90)

Penne Al Arrabbiata (RM17.90)

Golden Fish and Chips (RM20.90)

And special dessert ice-cream courtesy from the restaurant manager for the birthday girl. How nice!!

Birthday girl opening up her present cake.

Pooh theme cupcakes for the birthday girl who adores Winnie the Pooh!!! (will write about the cute cupcakes in later post)

Once again, hoped you had a nice birthday. The cupcake says it all!! haha

Mine…..birthday girl gave me this cupcake with "honey" icing deco on top, ‘cause I’m buzzingbee ma!! (opps, bee collects nectar and make honey, but do they eat it themselves??) Hahaha

It’s Oreo flavour

One for the album

Roadhouse Grill contacts:

But no fear, if you still hope to get some discount although you are not from that company, check out this blog and the details are there. (pssst..10% off just by reading that blog. What are you waiting for?)

Mini mooncake for sale. All homemade, so rest assured the quality is maximized!! This is really suitable to be given as small gifts to family/friends or even just to satisfy your craving for something appetizing :)

This mooncake is different from the normal ones sold outside. It’s not baked and must be kept in the fridge. But the ingredients inside is the same. There are two flavours to choose from, Lotus Seed (Corn) with egg yolk or Lotus Seed (Pandan) with egg yolk.

Lotus Seed (Pandan) with egg yolk

Lotus Seed (Corn) with egg yolk

Since it’s homemade and not the mass production type, so the packaging definitely cannot be on par with those big brands sold outside. But it is nicely packed in a simple box. The focus should be on the "main actor" which are those cute and colorful looking mooncakes right??

I’ve personally tasted it and it’s a breathe of something new and fresh…from the usual mooncakes we tasted. It gives a cooling sensation ‘cause it’s refrigerated…something I enjoy. And also, the size is just nice, not too big.

Anyway I didn’t make this (no such skills, haha). I’m just helping out a friendly neighbour whom our family had known for quite a long time. She makes this as a pass-time. One box goes for RM24 (8 pieces). I can also deliver it to areas around Air Itam or Bayan Lepas or elsewhere (depending) but have to add a little fee to cover my cost laa.

So anyone interested?? Floggers??
