Hawker food @ Kampung Malabar, Penang Road
Ho Ping Coffeeshop at Penang Road (or better known at Kampung Malabar) serves quite a variety of hawker food during lunch time. The corner shop is actually very small and tables are places very closely to each other. Sometimes you’ve got to wait to get an empty table. (but be forewarned - seems that it’s compulsory to order drinks or you’ll be charged for dining there. Not sure if it still applies now)
Among the widely ordered item there is the Lor Bak (price ranges from items chosen). Some of the items includes prawn fritters, lor bak (marinated meat wrapped in beancurd skin), tau kua, fish ball, and spring roll. The chili sauce and lor (thick gravy) is served in a very cute small steel bowl. Hardly get to see this kind of bowls nowadays.

Another popular food there is the Beef Meat/Ball Noodles. If you order the dried noodles, a bowl of soup with beef balls will be served together. The dried noodles is topped with minced beef meat and look very appetizing (sorry no photo of the noodles as my uncle started eating straight-away, no chance for me to snap!!) CK also wrote a post about this stall.
Char Koay Teow. Enough ‘wok hei’. Price is also reasonable. This stall also sells Fried Rice.

Chicken Rice is also widely ordered but taste normal. The gravy is nothing but diluted soya sauce and sesame oil. A little improvement there will make this dish better!

The only non-Chinese stall there is Mee Goreng/Mee Rebus. Of course it can’t fight with those famous mee goreng stalls elsewhere. But at least it’s an extra variety to chose from this coffeeshop.

Been there once in the morning and once at night. Have not blog about the night one yet. As still in my draft. ^-^

I haven’t been there for some time. Indeed I love the loh bak and also the Beef meat, ball noodles. For the Beef noodle there is another stall that a few steps away from this shop that offer great taste of “gau lam meen”, let’s go rombongan for that.

The loh bak is not bad. But char koay teow here is not as famous as Ah Leng’s cchar koay teow or the one in Lorong Selamat.
