Buzzing with FOOD

Ritz Cakes and Pastry has a lot of unique cakes on sale. Their cakes are not the usual ones like sponge cake with lots of cream and those boring kind in other bakeries. Although they do have pastries, the cakes are the main attraction in the shop.

It’s located at Prima Tanjung, few doors away from 7-11 and on the same shoplot with The No Eye Deer Restaurant.

The cakes might not be as cheap as other bakeries but the quality and taste of it is certainly worth the price. It’s without doubt much nicer than Secret Recipe!! (MalaysiaBest post & Lingzie’s post)

Sold in small individual pieces or as a whole.

Cakes beautifully decorated and chilled

They have macarons too!!

My friend’s pick of the day. I insisted that they try the green tea but they were skeptical.

End up, they don’t really fancy the green tea cake and wallop all the other pieces. I happily eat it all.

The last time we had a gathering, it was a whole piece of green tea cake. We enjoyed it very much. I guess that bunch of us have the same liking!!

siTigun Coffee House/Bicycle Pit-Stop Cafe is located at Nagore Road. Many don’t seem to realise this small double outlet at this area where there’s a lot of eateries. It’s diagonally opposite US Pizza.
What’s special about this cafe is that they painstakingly blend their own coffee bean and bake their own cakes and pastries, making sure customers are served the freshest and best available food and beverages.

I really do enjoy walking into such pre-war houses. They just give a nostalgic feel of the past. And what better way to relax in such ambiance with a cup of specially brewed coffee!!

A brief write-up of how this place come about and how Tigun Wibisana started it:

Make sure you take a peep at siTigun’s "Today’s Special" board hung outside before you walk into the cafe.

Relaxing environment

Simple Menu

Crash/Turkey Coffee - RM 4.80 (foreground)
Drip Coffee (Robusta) - RM 3.20

I forewarn you, only order the Crash if you are a coffee drinker. It is very bitter and very strong. I felt it was too strong at first but my tastebuds began to like it soon after. My friends were horrified when they tried a spoonful of it. It was too bitter for them!
A tip, put the amount of sugar you want, stir and let it settle for a moment before you drink it. Just look - all the coffee powder settled at the end of my cup.

Tiramisu - RM 8.80
This cake is the recommended item here, along with the chocolate mousse. We did not order the chocolate mousse as the waitress told us the remaining ones are not as fresh anymore. Kudos to them for being frank and having the customer-satisfaction mindset.
Back to the tiramisu, it’s very soft and creamy. It also contains some hint of liquor, so do consider that before ordering.

Muffin (Chocolate or Vanilla) - RM 2.80
This is good. Very soft, tasty and has a crunchy top. Not too sweet as well. I preferred the vanilla while my friends said the chocolate one is better. Both are nice actually!

Croissant with Butter and Jam - RM 3.80
Danish Roll - RM 3.80
Both of these are made by them too. A simple snack to keep the stomach happy :)
They do have croissant beef rendang but none of us fancy beef, so we opt for a simple butter and jam.

Holland Fries (with Mayo and Mustard sauce) - RM 6.80
Nothing special about this one, but just some finger food to munch while we enjoy our coffee.

Spaghetti Marinara - RM 9.80
They offer simple spaghetti dishes too. Some contain beef in the sauce. As for the marinara, it’s just tomato puree with mushroom and cheese. Very simple but everything is done to the right level, making this dish a satisfying one.

Red Rock Hotel at Macalister Road is currently having a lunch promotion starting at RM 7.80 nett at their Cafe & Lounge. It is on-going daily, including weekends. It’s a very attractive promo and since we have not tried it before, we took our chances.

Set Lunch Menu
4 sets (3 subsets each) to choose from:
Set A - Spaghetti with Nipolony Sauce/ Chicken Chop with Mango Sauce/ Seafood Basil Mushroom Sauce with Pineapple Rice
Set B - Black Pepper Chicken in Nyonya Style/ Steam Rice with Chicken Breast in mango Sauce/ Seafood Spaghetti with Basil Mushroom Sauce
Set C - Chicken Wing with Pumpkin Sauce/ Marinated Chicken with Pumpkin Sauce/ Seafood Spaghetti
Set D (forgot the menu, sorry)

Setting

Start of with a drink of Fruit Juice. Real fruit juice that is.
A choice of guava, orange, mango. You can also opt for coffee or tea.

Soup of the day (combination of mushroom, corn and onion soup)
Yes, it sounds weird and you might think it will even taste weird. But surprisingly it turned out alright. Just the right balance of each without any overpowering taste.

Seafood Spaghetti
From the photo in the menu, we thought this would be a good choice. But the outcome was nothing like we expected. The spaghetti was in bits and pieces and didn’t look appetizing!! (reminds me of the one cariso had?)
The seafood of fish fillet and prawns are deep-fried.

Seafood Spaghetti with Basil Mushroom Sauce
This was much better. Basil mushroom sauce was set aside for your quantity preference. The seafood is the same for all sets, fish fillet and prawns. They are generous with the amount of seafood. That, at least give them some good points.

Seafood Basil Mushroom Sauce with Pineapple Rice.
Mind you, it is not pineapple rice but more like turmeric rice. The rice is heavily infused with turmeric taste. I didn’t quite like it in the first few spoonful but soon, by adding the mushroom sauce, it taste much better. I guess it’s a preference, some might like it, some might not.

Chicken Chop with Mango Sauce
Deep fried chicken breast with mango sauce. Same set of rice as the above. I didn’t like the sauce. It doesn’t taste like mango. But my friend who ordered this said it was to her liking.

Promotion Flyer
Note that there’s only one set which has an RM 7.80 price tag - the vegetarian set. All others are RM 9.80 nett.

We also had a confusion when the bill was brought. It showed all sets that we ordered is RM 8.53 each. We then call on the supervisor and ask why the discrepancy. And finally after some back and forth debate, they came up with the answer that RM 8.53 + 15% (10% service charge and 5% gov. tax) = RM 9.80.
Their computer billing system needs some upgrade don’t you think?

Overall I think the environment is clean and cooling for a lunch with associates, price is also attractive considering it’s a set meal of drinks, starter and main course but there’s room for improvement in the food area.

Daily drool, Food, Chinese, Hawker, Snack, KL/SelangorJuly 21, 2009 6:00 pm

Just behind the Teck Seong Shop selling Klang Bak Kut Teh, there’s this shop, Restoran Klang Food Centre, with bare stall but attracting lots of visitors.

When we approach the front of the shop, we realise this shop has been visited by Ho Chiak team (season 1) of 8tv. It has also been featured in a local Chinese daily. So what is the specialty here?

Looks like pau. But they also sell bak chang (dumplings), loh mai kai (glutinous rice) and a few other deep-fried items.

Go in further and this is what is attracting so many people. We saw an outstation car ‘tapau’ a few boxes (yes boxes!!) of these.

It’s their special curry chicken pau. Practically everyone there will buy at least one of this. And customers on every table in the shop is seen eating one of these.

It’s almost double the size of our ‘tua pau’ (big pau-pork filling) here. It cost RM 3.50 each.

Looks not really pleasing but…..

And what’s inside?

Fragrant curry chicken contained in a muffin/pie cup. This is to make sure the gravy won’t spill out and get soaked by the fluffy pau skin.

Chunks of chicken meat with lots of chopped onions. Sweet and spicy! Dipping the pau skin into the curry gravy is really scrumptious. What a nice tea time food!!

They also sell char siew pau

Peanut pau and others such as kaya and tau sar pau

I wanted to tapau the curry chicken pau back to Penang but was afraid that it wouldn’t last as I only return the following day! Haha…sorry ya!
